IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE EPISODE TURN BACK NOW AND COME BACK YOU HAVE!
I’m thinking that I should rename Mondays to Avoid Social Media Like the Plague Mondays. Because that is what I spent the day doing. I have read book three of the series, but still I don’t want any possible deviations from the books to be spoiled. I want to experience the show as I watch it.
Dreadfort
This weeks episode starts off with a good ol’ fashioned people hunt. This is one of the less disturbing scenes that I have scene from this series and that says a lot. From any other show I would have been cringing, but not with GoT. Poor Theon has to watch on as Ramsey and his lady friend (who is shockingly as twisted as he is) run down a young woman. I have issue feeling bad for the now nicknamed Reek, he brought all of this on himself. He was never likable. Look at Ramsey in comparison, the acts that he commits are much worse, but he is so… Happy while doing them, that I like him much better and root for him. In the next Dreadfort scene we see just how broken Thoen is. There he stands over the Bastard of Bolton with a blade in hand and he shaves that man’s face and answers his questions. Roose Bolton may not be happy with the means to the end, but he can not argue with the results achieved.
King’s Landing
In King’s Landing we get a lovely little scene between Tyrion and Jaime. The banter is quick and amusing. And you can see a real friendship building between the brothers. We then skip to Jaime training with Bronn. Now I realize that Jaime does need to train up, he has to be able to yield a sword, there is no question about this. But is Bronn, the sell sword the best person to do this with? I love him and I think that Jerome Flynn plays him wonderfully he has a dry delivery that I love and he holds his on while sharing a scene with Peter Dinklage, and that can not be an easy task. But the character is, by nature, not trust worthy.
We then get to see Tyrion get metaphorically bitch slapped in the face twice. Once by Varys, who unceremoniously announces that he will not lie for the imp. And, while it hurts me to say this, I can’t blame him, he has to look out for himself and if lies and gets caught, he’s done for! We then watch Joffrey slice through a rare book that his uncle had given him as a wedding gift. And I have to say that I cringed at this scene, for one I love books and this hurts my soul, and secondly, the look on Tyrion’s face was heart wrenching and just to rub salt in the wound, it was done from a sword that was forged out of part of my beloved Ice. He then does something that hurts him more then he can say, more then either of the previous acts combined. He banishes Shae, Harry and the Hendersons style. This is something that Tyrion thought about many times in the books, but could never bring himself to do.
In a short sequence we get to see the muchly anticipated (by me at least) wedding between King Joffrey and Margaery. Am I the only one who is disappointed with Margaery wedding look? I mean, I love this girl, I love the she isn’t afraid to show some skin, but while the dress was ok, I was hoping for something a bit more special on her big day. And speaking of big, whats with the hair?
If it felt to you like the ceremony was tad short that is because the reception is what its all about. Dear god, I didn’t think Brienne could get more tragic, but then she goes and does it. While she doesn’t respond to Cersei’s acusation of being in love with Jaime, her silence speaks volumes. But I still can’t help but loving the “Lady” who never could master the curtsy. And probably my favorite part of the episode, the quick and clever banter between Cersei and Tywin vs Oberyn and Ellaria. I’m going to hand this one to Prince Oberyn, only because well, he gave it better then he got. He does not feel in any way that his actions are reproachable, so the barbs handed to him do not hurt him. And then Tyrion gets one final bitch slap to round out the episode. But the pain on Sansa’s at that moment, hurt me deeply. I have said that it is hard for me to feel for her, but in that moment, I wanted to rescue her.
And for the moment that book readers have been impatiently awaiting… The death of Joffrey. I don’t think any one will mourn this loss. But let us take a moment to truly appreciate the performance given during the last 3 seasons by Jack Gleeson. It takes a great gift to play someone who is so unlikable, and for it to be so well done in such a young actor, I think that we need to let that sink in. The image of the dead king is one that will forever be burned into my corneas. While Cersei didn’t waste any time in pinning the death on her beloved brother Tyriom, I don’t think we will ever know who is responsible. I mean the guy has more enemies then I have shoes.
Dragonstone
How long has it been since we have had BBQ? Well, we were overdue. Lady Melisandre said something that struck me as very true in this sequence: there is only one hell, the one we live in now. I can’t help but notice how much the kids of the show have grown in between season 3 and 4. Shireen is going to be fully grown before long.
North of the Wall
Another of our GoT kids who seems to be almost an adult is Bran. I have to say, the moment when he connected with the Heart tree was freaky, in a wonderful kind of way. Can we do it again?
As always, have a geektastic day, see you next time!
Lets be clear the comment section is a sp oiler freeish zone. What that means is you can discuss anything that has happened on the TV show thus far. If you have read the books, and you spoil anything for the rest of us. I will hunt you down and make you watch all the Twilight Movies in marathon with no breaks Clockwork Orange style.
