THROWBACK THURSDAY: Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind

ImageSo last year I completed my goal of purchasing all the Tim Burton films (the last one being Pee-wee’s Big Adventure), which left me feeling a bit sad. What would I do next? And just recently (like last month), I decided that I would complete (as much as possible) my Hayao Miyazaki collection. There are quite a few that I am missing, so do not be surprised if you see me reviewing them.

Hayao has a very distinctive style, the animation is gorgeous, it makes me want to inhabit  these wonderful creations of his. If you are a fan of his you will likely notice a very strong theme running through out all of his movies. This is a man that cares deeply for the environment. Nausicaä  is a perfect example of this. These pictures always have some of the best casts. We have Shia LeBeouf before he got all douchy, Patrick Stewart who is just awesome incarnate, and Mark Hamill who is… Well he’s freaking Luke Skywalker, what more do you need?

Nausicaä is a bewitching princess who tries to make the world that she is in a little better and in the process she winds up saving a dying planet. People, animals, bogs, even plant life can’t help but be charmed by this young woman. and who can blame them?

Love it/Hate it: Miyazaki movies enchant me, the music the animation the story line. His movies are my go to for if I am not feeling all that great. They comfort me and make me happy! I hate that Miyazaki is retiring, for realz this time! I get that at some point he would have to stop making movies, but I hate the thought that I won’t have any more to look forward to.

Favorite Quote: Why does everything that’s good for you have to taste so bad?

My Rating: 8 weird bug species out of 10.

Other Ratings: IMDB – 8.2 stars out of 10. Rotten Tomatoes – 86%. Flixster – 91%.

As always, have a geektastic day, see you next time!
