This is Garry Marshall’s crowning glory. I have seen many of his movies, and love a good deal of the ones I have seen, Pretty Woman, will always be my favorite (also look for his cameo at the beginning of the movie). When people say that they blame Disney for their unrealistic expectations of men and love, my sister for years has responded that she blamed this movie… As she recently found out, Disney was the studio that backed Pretty Woman. She also found out that this movie was originally intended to be a dark drama. But when strip away the fluffy happy ending, and the quippy lines, this is a very twisted story… that I love!
Julia Roberts is adorable in this movie. How you can not fall in love with her is beoynd me, she is funny and charming. This is the movie that put her on the map. A number of actresses turned down the role and after seeing the long career that Julia gained after this film, most of them have admitted to regretting that choice. Richard Gere is on of those older men that will always hold a special spot in my heart, this movie is largely responsible for that. Shout out goes out to Jasson Alexander for being a special kind of skevy. And hey look it’s Hank Azeria!
On of my favorite things about all Garry Marshall movies, is Hector Elizondo. It was actually how I figured out that Georgia Rule was one of his films (Hey look its Hector, wait this isn’t a Garry Marshal movie is? *IMDB*, well I’ll be damned, yup, still don’t like it). Another repeat actor is Larry Miller, he has a small part in this movie, but he never fails to bring a smile to my face.
Love it/Hate it: Shopping montage! I’m a girl, sew me. Hate? If you give me year… or ten I might be able to give you something that i slightly dislike about the movie, but never hate.
Favorite Quote: You make $100 an hour and you have a safety pin holding your boot up?
My Rating: $2700 out $3000.
As always, have a geektastic day, see you next time!
